CASCADE GIANT-This varietys root were originally a selection from Oregon Giant with more slender pods and seeds. I found the opposite with the variety of Oregon Giant seed I grow that my neighbours have been growing for a long time. These pods were a little meatier, and had slightly larger beans with lighter whites on the seed. N/A
OREGON GIANT-Originally it was a darker coloured bean when given to me by my neighbour who has grown this variety for a long time and it is one of their favourites. This pole bean has a thinner more tender string-less pod, while the beans develop to be smaller and are a slightly darker white than the Cascade Giant. N/A
CHIOGGIA-Light red, smooth round beets. When cut cross-wise the insides look like a target or a candy cane with red and white striping. Green leaves. Beautiful in salads. Easy to grow. Plant seeds 1cm deep, 2cm apart and keep soil moist. When seedlings are 5 cm tall, thin to 7-15+cm apart. Use well-rotted manure or compost and in deep, moist soil. N/A
FORMANOVA-Deep cylindrical, red roots up to 6″ long and 2-3″ in diameter. Ideal for it’s uniform slices when canning. Sow seed 1/2″-3/4″ deep, in full sun, in soil that is not too rich. Tolerates cooler soil temperatures.
YELLOW CYLINDRICAL- A very rare, large oblong golden yellow stock beet. Used as a winter forage supplement for livestock. Easy to chop. Easy to grow.
CABBAGE-KRAUTMAN X LANGEDJIKER-STARWINNER-Crossed between the uniform ball shape of Krautman and the large non-cracking Langedjiker-Starwinner. Excellent for sauerkraut. Always have a good crop with these. Remember cabbage is a cool weather plant, so plant out early; and when the rain has stopped mulch around the plants to grow them big! Inspect and pick off caterpillars mid-season.
DRAGON’S BLOOD-Purple-skinned carrot with a deep orange interior; some with yellow cores. Beautiful in salads, dips, steaming & juicing. Plant in rich deep loose soil. Companion plants are beans, peas, tomatoes, onions and leeks. Sow ½” apart, & ¼” deep. Keep soil moist. Thin to 2” apart. Seed is viable for approx. 3 yrs.
SCARLET NANTES-Sweet and juicy bright orange, high quality, long cylindrical carrot. Excellent keeper. Originally developed and released by the French seed house Vilmorin prior to 1855. Plant in rich deep loose soil. Companion plants are beans, peas, tomatoes, onions and leeks. Sow ½” apart, & ¼” deep. Keep soil moist. Thin to 2” apart. Seed is viable for approx. 3 yrs.
