About Us

Heirloom Open-Pollinated Vegetable, Flower and Herb seeds. Specializing in rare, northern acclimated, and short growing season varieties, including many Russian Doukhobor and Heirloom Tomato varieties.

Naturally Grown in Slocan Valley, BC Canada

We do not sell chemically treated or genetically modified seeds, so there is no genetic interference except by Nature’s design. This means you can save any seeds from our catalogue and participate in protecting plant genetic diversity, your own food security and helping to acclimatize plant varieties to Canadian weather, as most seeds on the market are not grown in Canada.

The Kootenay region of BC is pressuring Government to declare us a GMO free zone. There is no large scale mono-crop farming and a heightened awareness against using or eating GM seeds in our small valley, so there is little risk of potential GM seed cross contamination.

In the last century, we have lost 90% of our vegetable varieties, a tragic loss of diversity and threat to our food security. It is important to stop this trend, and as growers and consumers look for alternatives. Heirlooms are the link to the past and are the key to our future.

Growing heirlooms is an exciting way to try new and unusual tastes, shapes and colours. There are so many amazing varieties out there not carried by large seed companies. It’s really up to the gardeners and small farmers of the world to keep them alive. Because of the short life span of seeds, it is of great need and importance to grow them out and keep them available to use!

Our seeds are available through mail and online ordering; BC seed exchanges, and at local stores. We cater specifically to home gardeners.  Our seeds are planted, harvested and packaged by hand.

My apologies to all you gardeners. I am currently in full time school for many years and do not have any extra time to get to all things seeds. All my new stock remains unlabelled and I am unable to promise much for the next few years other than getting some seeds out to my favourite local stores. I will not be updating my website, but you are welcome to research the wondrous varieties of years past.

“Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms poses great biological risks, as well as economic, political and cultural threats.

We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing are necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically-diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities.”
